Top 10 tips for promotional event photos

One of the things we enjoy most at Elevate is seeing our brand ambassadors ‘in action’. While we can’t physically be at every single event, we love receiving photos from our team members.

Being a global event staffing agency, it’s brilliant to see our promotional staff enjoying themselves and creating memorable experiences for consumers across the world.

We also like to reshare these photos across our social media channels from time to time, and to do so, we want to ensure they’re as high quality as possible to showcase all the great work we do for our clients. To help with that, we’ve put together these top 10 tips for taking promotional event photos.

Be aware of your team’s appearance

We’ve all been there before. You get a notification saying you’ve been tagged in a photo only to find your eyes are closed or you’ve been caught mid-bite into your sandwich. No one likes to see an unflattering photo of themselves plastered all over their feed, and the same goes for your teammates. So, before taking any photos, make sure everyone knows to look their best with shirts tucked in and hair in place.

Capture action shots

We want to see the happy faces of our staff in posed pictures, but it’s also important to capture the organic moments as well. Think about capturing those conversations between brand ambassadors and consumers, and people having fun when interacting with the various campaign elements.

Quality over quantity

While it can be tempting to snap as many photos as possible, it’s always better to have several well-thought-out shots over a whole album of blurry images.

Think about your lighting

Brand ambassador work can take place in all sorts of environments, from sunny seaside locations to moody bars, which is why it’s important to pay attention to your lighting. Thankfully, most smartphones are now advanced enough to take the hard work out of this, but it doesn’t hurt to be aware. For example, if you’re taking a picture outdoors when the sun is behind you, your subject will look too dark and hard to see. And don’t forget to use your flash wisely.

Get different shots

Seeing people interacting with an activation is very important, but it also helps to capture different elements as well. Don’t forget to take pictures of things like competitions, sampling, and team members using props.

Clean and tidy space

Experiential campaigns often mean operating in a fast-paced environment, which makes it easy to forget other tasks. As the representatives of a brand, the environment we’re working in should always remain clean and tidy. When taking photos, make sure there are no distractions in the background such as rubbish or open boxes.

Brand placement

This is easy to forget about but including a brand logo in a photo is a great way to generate awareness, especially on social media. Whether you’re taking a photo of a team member with a logo on their t-shirt, or you’re including the relevant signage in the background, we should be able to look at a photo and know exactly what brand is behind it.

Charge your battery

This may sound like an obvious one, but it’s important. The next moment you capture at an activation could have the potential to go viral, but there’s nothing more annoying than pulling out your phone only to find there’s no battery. Make sure it’s charged and ready to go before an event, but please put it away when you’re not taking pictures.

Always ask permission

Although most of us may be happy to be included in a photo, that’s not the case for everyone, and we must always respect people’s privacy. When taking photos of the public, don’t forget to ask their permission first. We also want to encourage them to share their own content, so always reference our company’s Instagram handle: @elevate_staffing, to encourage them to tag us.

Enjoy yourself

And finally, don’t forget to have fun! Being a brand ambassador is an incredibly exciting role, and we want to see you enjoying yourself.
